Conference Power Rankings

During a slow week in college basketball, the following are my current power rankings and where I think each team will eventually end up:

Big East:

1. Georgetown- NCAA
2. Pittsburgh- NCAA
3. Marquette- NCAA
4. West Virginia- NCAA
5. Louisville- NCAA
6. Connecticut- NCAA
7. Notre Dame- NIT
8. Villanova- NCAA
9. Syracuse- NCAA
10. Seton Hall- NIT
11. Providence- NIT
12. St. John's
13. South Florida
14. DePaul
15. Rutgers
16. Cincinnati

ACC:

1. North Carolina- NCAA
2. Duke- NCAA
3. Clemson- NCAA
4. Miami- NCAA
5. Boston College- NCAA
6. Virginia- NCAA
7. North Carolina State- NIT
8. Florida State- NIT
9. Georgia Tech
10. Maryland
11. Wake Forest
12. Virginia Tech

Big Ten:

1. Michigan State- NCAA
2. Indiana- NCAA
3. Wisconsin- NCAA
4. Purdue- NCAA
5. Illinois- NCAA
6. Minnesota- NIT
7. Ohio State- NIT
8. Penn State
9. Iowa
10. Northwestern
11. Michigan

Big 12:

1. Kansas- NCAA
2. Texas- NCAA
3. Texas A&M- NCAA
4. Baylor- NCAA
5. Kansas State- NIT
6. Missouri- NIT
7. Texas Tech- NIT
8. Nebraska
9. Oklahoma State
10. Oklahoma
11. Iowa State
12. Colorado

SEC:

1. Tennessee- NCAA (1 East)
2. Arkansas- NCAA (1 West)
3. Vanderbilt- NCAA (2 East)
4. Florida- NCAA (3 East)
5. Georgia- NIT (4 East)
6. Kentucky (5 East)
7. Mississippi (2 West)
8. Alabama- NIT (3 West)
9. South Carolina (6 East)
10. Mississippi State (4 West)
11. LSU (5 West)
12. Auburn (6 West)

Pac 10:

1. UCLA- NCAA
2. Washington State- NCAA
3. Oregon- NCAA
4. Arizona- NCAA
5. USC- NCAA
6. Stanford- NCAA
7. California- NCAA
8. Washington- NIT
9. Arizona State
10. Oregon State

That's 34 NCAA spots for the BCS leagues, which means there are 31 left for all other leagues. With the 6 automatic bids, this means there are only 6 at-large spots for all other teams. You'd have to figure one of those will go to whoever doesn't win the West Coast Conference (Gonzaga or St. Mary's), probably 2 or 3 from the Atlantic 10, one from the Mountain West, and possibly one from the Missouri Valley (weak league this year). Of course, you could see a team like Kansas State, Kentucky, Seton Hall, Providence, Notre Dame, or Ohio State move from the NIT into the NCAA picture which could take away some more spots. Likewise, a team listed here as NCAA could drop to the NIT. It may only be December 14, but the bubble picture is starting to take shape ever so slightly.

Good list, just a few things-

I don't want to live in a scary world where Minnesota is ahead of Ohio State.

I'd slip Mizzou past KSU in the Big 12 and Vandy ahead of Arkansas in the SEC.

I still say NC State sneaks in the tournament.

Ohio State isn't that good.

I think Arkansas is very underrated and Vanderbilt very overrated.

NC State is so hard to predict. They have a lot of bad non-conf losses so far, they probably need to win @ SH and get 10 Ws in the ACC.
