Dominic James, Marquette: "James earns Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row after leading Marquette to a pair of road wins. On Sunday, he scored a game-high 23 points and hit the game-winning free throws with 0.9 seconds left in overtime in a 77-74 win at No. 6/6 Pittsburgh. James did not commit a turnover in 39 minutes. Earlier in the week, he had 16 of his 18 points in the second half in a 74-65 win at Louisville. He dealt five assists in both contests."

Scottie Reynolds, Villanova: "Reynolds averaged 26.5 points and 5.0 assists while sparking Villanova to a pair of victories against ranked opponents. Cincinnati 96, West Virginia 83 (OT)- You had to figure Cincinnati would eventually beat someone, but I thought it would be USF, Rutgers, or St. John's. This is an awful loss for a West Virginia team that is finally coming back to earth (keep in mind they did not play a strong out of conference schedule) and approaching the NIT fast.

Dominic James, Marquette: "James averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals while leading Marquette to a pair of league wins over ranked opponents. In a 73-69 victory at No. 24/22 Connecticut, James had 17 points, four assists and three steals. The win ended UConn's 31-game home winning streak. James, a native of Richmond, Ind., followed that performance with 21 points, six assists and five steals in an 81-63 triumph over No. 21/21 West Virginia."

Big East Rookie of the Week:

Luke Harangody, Notre Dame: "Harangody averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Irish, while playing only 20.5 minutes per game. The native of Schererville, Ind. had 12 points in his first collegiate start, an 88-76 win over Seton Hall. In a 61-58 victory over No. 21/21 West Virginia, Harangody posted 11 points. Marquette 73, Connecticut 69- This win got the Golden Eagles back on track. An 0-3 start to conference play would have been devastating. UConn still lacks a quality win.

Worst loss:

DePaul 60, Rutgers 37- Rutgers almost set the record for fewest points scored in a Big East game by itself, and the teams combined for under 100 points which has to come close to a record too. The 37 points was Rutgers' lowest point total in the shot clock era. It will be a rough battle to stay out of the Big East cellar between Cincinnati and Rutgers. Rutgers holds the tiebreaker, as they defeated Cincinnati last weekend.

Herbert Hill, Providence: "Hill averaged 21.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 5.7 blocks per game in a 3-0 week for Providence. He shot 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the field during the three-game stretch. The PC senior began the week with 17 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks in a 107-69 non-conference win on Jan. 2 versus Longwood. On Jan. 4, he registered 23 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks in a 74-59 win over No. 15 Marquette. Hill wound down the week with 25 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in the Friars' 91-69 win over Seton Hall on Jan. 6."

Big East Rookie of the Week:

Eugene Harvey, Seton Hall: "Harvey claims Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season. The Seton Hall freshman averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and shot 50 percent from the field (13-of-26) in two games this past week. In a 77-72 win over Rutgers in the Pirates' league opener on Jan. 3, Harvey had 21 points, three rebounds and three assists. He added 16 points and two assists against Providence on Jan. 6."

Best win:

Providence 74, Marquette 59- Providence is really playing well and seems to have recovered from a 30 point loss to Florida State. Herbert Hill, Geoff McDermott, and Weyinmi Efejuku are playing tremendous. Providence will get Sharaud Curry back for its next game against Louisville on Saturday. This team is a real sleeper and has a great shot to make the NCAA Tournament now.

Worst loss:

Rutgers 54, Cincinnati 42- Rutgers hardly ever wins on the road in conference play, but they got it done here. Cincinnati was coming off a blowout loss to Memphis and showed no heart or enthusiasm. Mick Cronin really has his work cut out for him in the near future. Cincinnati just might be the worst team in the league right now.
